Arm Lift

What Is An Arm Lift?

A brachioplasty, more commonly known as an arm lift, is a surgical procedure used to tighten and smooth the under portion of the upper arm. Loose skin and excess fatty tissue are removed to leave patients with thinner, younger looking arms.

Who Is A Candidate For An Arm Lift?

The ideal candidate for this procedure is an individual who has a significant sagging of under the upper arm region due to the natural aging process or fluctuations in weight. To minimize the risk of complication, it is important that the patient is not significantly overweight and is in good health. Smoking contributes to complications, so it is advised that the patient quits smoking at least two weeks prior to the procedure.

About The Procedure…

This outpatient procedure can be performed under intravenous sedation or general anesthesia, depending on patient and physician preference. An incision will be made on the inside, under portion of the arm or in some cases, the back of the arm. The incision size varies depending on the amount of excess skin to be removed. The excess tissue is removed and supportive tissue is tightened and contoured to perfectly shape the underside of your arm. In many cases, liposuction is also used to rid of excess fatty tissue. Your surgeon will fully discuss the details of your procedure with you during your complimentary consultation.

Risks

As with any surgical procedure, there is always the risk of complication. Heavy smokers, patients who are overweight and patients with diabetes and/or other health problems are more susceptible to complications. Risks inherent to the use of general anesthesia include nausea, vomiting, sore throat, fatigue, headache and muscle soreness. In very rare cases, the use of general anesthesia may cause blood pressure problems, allergic reaction, heart attack or stroke.

Risks associated with brachioplasty include bleeding, infection, hematoma (collection of blood in a tissue), seroma (collection of serum in a tissue), blood clotting, numbness, scarring or asymmetry.
